I just got back from the movie theater watching The Uprising with Andrew Garfield and while the film was an interesting watch, to me it seemed like a struggle with what it truly wanted to be.
We were just kind of thrown into the movie at the start, trying to identify characters, while I wanted a little more back story. For example, like a montage of Ploughman losing his family over the years, during the black death, which would set him up strongly, giving more weight to his actions. The movie had a slow start already so what’s a little more backstory going to hurt?
What got me wanting to watch The Uprising in the first place was when I first saw the trailer and saw Garfield snap about the taxes which relates all too well to this day in age.
“That’s enough! Enough! We’ve given you enough!” – Ploughman (2026)
The ending actually surprised me though because when I thought the movie was over, there was a whole nother arc, which made me feel like the movie would have been better as a TV series as it seems like they tried to fit so much into the runtime.
So, what would I rate The Uprising? I’d give it a cool 3/5!
