HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (Ghost Studios) – The Houston County Sheriff’s Office has suspended Deputy Sierra Carroll, without pay, pending termination, after an Internal Audit, discovering the misuse of Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) data.
This comes as other incidents around Georgia have come to light in recent weeks, causing concern in communities as conversations around privacy and mass surveillance begin to surface.
According to Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton, Deputy Carroll was serving as a School Resource Officer for a little over a year and while the reasoning behind the use of the system hasn’t been revealed, Moulton says she will be facing criminal prosecution.
“The public places an incredible amount of trust in the men and women of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and I will never take that trust for granted,” said Sheriff Moulton, discussing the situation on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page. “The misuse of law enforcement resources or technology will not be tolerated.”
Sheriff Moulton says the Sheriff’s Office is committed to transparency and he will personally continue to take immediate action in cases such as these.
