After beating Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, after 100 years, and Monster Hunter Wilds finally releasing, I was ready, so now it’s time to give my true first impressions.
To be honest, Wilds caught me completely off guard, based on my original impressions of the trailers before release, I wasn’t sold, but after actually playing the full game, I realized their marketing team needs to be fired.
Gameplay and mechanically wise, Wilds is superior to World, but story wise not so much. It was just something about World’s oh snap is this an Elder Dragon vibes versus Wild’s we got to help this kid, Nata, so we have a reason to slay monsters vibes. The story surrounding this is actually great, but the Nata Arc just doesn’t hit like the Granny Arc, The Tracker, in World did.
The Handler was considered annoying by many in World, but the Handler in Wilds, Alma, really isn’t, plus she’s good to look at, so I guess Nata needed to fill the annoying role for whatever reason.
Gemma, my Blacksmith, is never where she needs to be at critical moments during the story, whether that is by design, the World may never know…
My tune has completely changed though from my original impressions. I really am enjoying the game and a lot of reviewers complained about how easy the game was, that honestly made me want to try it even more as I’m all about the easy life.
Monsters don’t take as long to beat anymore and all the upgrades to the mechanics are just awesome.
