WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (Ghost Studios) – After discussing the 2018 Barberitos Homicide Cold Case, Warner Robins Police Department transitioned into discussing what residents can expect with Operation Lay It Down.

According to the Department, Operation Lay It Down is a proactive collaboration initiative with Combat Bullying Tour aimed at reducing gun violence, acknowledging the devastating impact it has on victims, families, and neighborhoods in Houston County.

Residents can anonymously turn in unwanted or found firearms and all surrendered firearms will be handled securely, with any that are confirmed stolen to be returned to their rightful owners.

Wayne Fisher, Chief of Police for Warner Robins Police Department and other local news outlets says, the event originally started after a homicide that took place in February of 2024, on Margie Drive, where a 13-year-old was in possession of a stolen firearm and killed 14-year-old Tra’Quavis Holloway. Fisher says, the case is still ongoing.

The community response to Operation Lay It Down has been somewhat skeptical though with many saying their rights are being violated and others afraid of suffering legal consequences even though the department says that’s not the case.

“Warner Robins Police Department is a very Pro-2A (Second Amendment) community, we support firearms ownership and the laws adjoining in the Constitution of the United States,” said Fisher. “This is not, again, a buy back, this is not a politically driven or motivated activity, this is an activity point of looking within our community, where I had to bring one to many parents to the last moments with their child, in the emergency room, because another child had a firearm.”

The Department says, they recognize the challenges individuals may face when discovering such weapons and ensure that community members can safely surrender firearms without fear of legal consequences.

“We’re not transcribing anybody’s name or writing down any of their information,” said Fisher.

Due to the sensitive nature of the topic and the ongoing investigation, Fisher refused to answer any questions.

Operation Lay It Down will happen Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. at Perkins Park, located at 105 Mulberry Court, in Warner Robins.

For more information, the department says to contact Lieutenant Patrick Allen at (478)-302-5378 or pallen@wrga.gov.
