Paying Far More for Far Less – The Tragedy of Gaming

Where do I even start? The seventh generation of consoles changed things forever. Who would have thought that in the span of 7 years of gaming, from seventh to eighth, would have traveled so low and from eighth to ninth, even lower?

From dlc to battle passes to skins to multiple in-game currencies. Believe it or not, once upon a time you didn’t have to buy those Dragon Ball characters. You could unlock them by playing the story. Gasp!?

Back in the sixth generation and before, the only thing you had to buy was the game and you had everything. No updates, no passes, for characters that should have been in the game at launch.

I know I’ve been saying a lot of good stuff about Mortal Kombat 1 lately, but my goodness the character pass is $20 shy of a new game. I admit we are all part of the problem because we keep buying this foolishness, but if you stop to think about it we’ve been spending far more for less. It’s insane how many characters were in the Budokai Tenkaichi games in the sixth generation.

Still going off Dragon Ball, FighterZ for example, while it was overall considered a great game, majority of the characters in the passes, were just in the game at launch in the sixth generation. Not only that, but they had three separate passes and what’s even worse you literally had to buy base Goku and Vegeta, like what!!??

We are currently in the ninth generation, we pay more and we don’t get half of what we got three generations ago. While games in general have got graphically better, they have also been getting tragically worse.
