The Nintendo 64 is 28 years old and it will always hold a special place in my heart because I’m currently 28 years old.
That’s right, I was released in fall of 1995 and the 64 just a few months after me in 1996.
My first experience with the console wasn’t til I was a young kindergartener. My older cousins always came down to stay the summer with us and this particular time they brought their Nintendo 64.
I remember playing this strange fighting game, as a wolf beast. I would later find out that the game was Killer Instinct and I was playing Sabrewulf, imagine…
We also played GoldenEye 007. I thought it was crazy that four people were playing a game at the same time, as my only other experience at the time, with games, was with the original PlayStation.
I also played what I thought was one of the best games of all time, Spider-Man.
After visiting another set of cousins for a summer, I remember playing Wave Race 64 and Mario Kart 64.
The next experience was later on in my middle school days a friend brought over his Nintendo 64 which he thought was broken, but it was just his cable, because I plugged my PlayStation 2 cable in and the joker worked just fine, this is where I would play Mortal Kombat II for the first time.
Then later in my high school days, after making money selling stuff on Amazon, which I considered my first job, I bought one for $20 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which I wanted play the most, never did beat the game as I never knew what I was doing and later on gave it to my Grandmother as a gift because she liked the Wheel of Fortune game we had found at a Goodwill.
At the current moment, I honestly want to buy the original Japanese Animal Crossing cartridge, and put it in a glass case or something like a museum piece.
Funny thing is the Nintendo 64 was made in 1996 and the thing is still working to this day, things were just built differently back in the 90s, I am proof of that.
