Imagine what I come across scrolling through YouTube, a trailer for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which is due out Summer 2026, with a Closed Alpha Playtest coming soon, featuring four playable characters, Aang, Korra, Katara, and Zuko.
Back in March of 2024, I wrote an article called, We need a REAL Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting GAME, detailing my wishes for a game after the launch of the Netflix series and rumors of Maximum Entertainment developing one.
But looking at the Steam page, I noticed Gameplay Group International were the developers, so was this the same game? After some extreme digging, as reported by IGN, it turns out the game was canceled sometime last year and fell into the hands of Gameplay Group International.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game looks to be a one versus one 2D fighter, which was one of my predictions, even though the cuts tried to make it look tag based and while watching the footage, it took me back to the late 90s as it has that PlayStation one feel to it and I’m not mad at it. It really seems like we have something here!
“It channels the energy of classic fighting games while breaking new ground in movement, style, and combat expression,” said Gameplay Group International posted on the Steam page. “Hand-drawn in 2D, it is crafted to preserve the style and expressive animation of the original series.”
