So, I recently purchased Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising on sale for $30, which included Character Pass 1 featuring Goddess 2B from NieR: Automata.
I started up the Story Mode for the first time and couldn’t help, but notice a black screen while sound effects and voice lines were playing, but then I could see the visual novel style cutscenes, which made no sense, because apparently I was missing the animated ones.
Going on a wild search on how to fix said issue, only a few were talking about it with theories and no solutions, with one person in the Steam Discussions saying the black screen issue also affected the Character Guide, Command List, in Training Mode which I confirmed also affected me.
So, I decided to go down the list myself based on what was said and well look no further, because the issue was missing codec extensions that were removed from various windows updates. Available on Microsoft’s official site, there are five said extensions, four of which are free, so I downloaded them all and it fixed the black screen issue, but I couldn’t tell you which one fixed it in particular.
In any case, problem solved, now we can enjoy the story without having to go look up the cutscenes on YouTube.
