I must be slowly becoming stupid or something, because I recently started playing Asterigos: Curse of the Stars, after giving up on Black Myth: Wukong, and the map, there is no map by the way, started to wrap around and I’m like, where I’m going, making my nightmares about Wukong resurface…
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars actually has a difficulty level, which I set to the easiest level, which is story, but it doesn’t matter.
The game was fine at the beginning, the Outerrim, it didn’t seem too big, but quickly changed when you get to the second part, The Black Streets, it becomes enormous, with multiple areas and floors stacked on one another and I was just completely lost, combine that with the save point foolishness and that I’m only near four hours into the game and it seems I’m about to be on a giving up streak.
It’s sad, as the gameplay in these games are honestly great, but it’s the other factors that make me start to lose my mind.
As always when I write articles I’ll hop back into the game after I cool off just to give it the benefit of the doubt and by a stroke of luck I found the area boss, Baraad, Lord of the Black Street, beat him with no problem as per my story mode difficulty, which I like, but then came to realization I think I’m just starting to hate exploration type games.
It reminded me of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which was filled with puzzles and backtracking like mad. I literally couldn’t finish the game without looking at a walkthrough and that was around the time where I decided if I have to look at a walkthrough of a game, I might as well just call it quits. I’m trying to actually play the game, not be stuck wasting time circling around a map for hours until I’m forced to watch another player play.
In the grand scheme of things, less than four hours isn’t much time, unless you aren’t having fun, then it feels like forever, if The Black Streets were like that, I can’t even begin to imagine how the other areas are…
