I recently started playing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and was blown away by the tutorial.
This game is 15 years old and the reason the tutorial in Chapter 1, Besieged Village was so good is because it was simple and baked right into the game mechanics.
You are thrust into battle with strange creatures and have no idea what’s going on. I think this is the best way to start anything story related to be honest because you immediately become invested. Nearly all Korean Dramas, for example, start like right in the middle of things.
Anyways, you are dropped right into the action with no choice but to fight. The music and design was so great it honestly felt like a precursor to the John Wick films.
Games normally don’t do such things anymore, they stop the game mid-battle and you have to scroll through pages of stuff and then try to do said move to continue, whereas Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is like, one sentence, press this button, but you don’t necessarily have to, just see if you can survive.
